Thursday 14TH - sunday 17th november 2019

-

November, when the leaves, seeds and berries have fallen from the trees and the cooler winter weather has set in. The days are shorter and the nights are longer, making this is the perfect time to embrace the slow dark season and give time for nourishment to mind, soul and body.

Here at fforest we have set aside a long weekend for women to come together in the surroundings nature and slow down to restore energy, rekindle a passion for fireside creativity and be ready for the festive season ahead.

Every gathering we like to create space for walks and wellbeing, creativity and nourishment.

Over this winter retreat we will go forest bathing, a silent woodland walk and meditation guided by the wonderful Gemma David, helping us gently connect with ourselves and to the natural rhythm of life. There will be nature inspired workshops, foraging for winter greenery to make a winter wreath, winter scented candles and pinecone firelighters. With natural threads and yarns, talented weaver Suzanne Gattrell Hodshon will teach us how to weave. And the weekend is not complete without some chopping and chatting in the farmhouse kitchen.

The line up of activities is still evolving so we look forward to sharing more with you later.

Here is a taster of what we did at Glow last winter.

Amanda Banham, the brilliant potter and story teller, came to Glow and helped us build our own ceramic house or pinch pot. Debbie George, a painter inspired by flowers, ceramics and pattern, came and guide us through painting a still life. We walked through the woods to forage for greenery to make a winter wreath. Took a bracing walk along a stretch of our beautiful rugged coast line and some of us went in for a truly bracing and exhilarating swim in the sea. There was a reflexology session and wood fire Sauna pampering to totally sooth and relax. Cook and author Anja Dunk talk us through some recipes in her new book ‘Strudel, Noodles and Dumplings’. Followed by some fforest gin tasting before supper.... photos kindly taken by Emily Brittain and Polly Baldwin.

Come alone or with a friend to enjoy the company and comfort of being a part of this small and intimate gathering in the peaceful surroundings of fforest with tasty and nourishing food.

If you have a talent or passion, be it creative writing, reading or making or anything there are plenty of quiet and comfortable spaces to escape and relax to during the weekend.

The goal is to inspire, support and help each other. To have some fun and maybe learn something new. Glow is inspired by the Swedish concept of Syjunta - of women coming together to share friendship, inspiration, craft skills and knowledge, supporting each other in a relaxing environment.

Accommodation is in comfortable rooms in either a garden room or a crog loft with shared bathroom or a private double bed with en-suite in Ty Fforest.

What you’ll be eating

We take pride in our food. We grow many of our own salads and greens. We are blessed with fantastic local produce on our doorstep. That makes it easy to keep it simple, seasonal, local, nourishing and delicious. Everything is freshly prepared and will be mostly vegetarian. We will be making hearty soups with local breads for lunch and cooking comforting suppers from seasonal produce. Pots of tea are accompanied by delicious home-baked cakes and tray-bakes for sharing.

The stay includes 3 nourishing DIY breakfasts of granola, eggs, toast and jams, 2 light lunches and 3 hearty suppers. Please let us know if you have any specific dietary requirements or allergies when booking so that we can take these into consideration when planning the menus.

What to Bring

Warm and waterproof clothes and boots, as we will be outside enjoying mother nature a lot of the time. Warm snuggly woollies to wrap and cosy up in.

A creative project you are working on or some basic materials to get you started, whether it be your knitting or sewing kit, a sketchbook or a camera.    This is your time. You decide.

Remember to pack a bottle of wine or two if you would like to relax on the sofa with a drink in the evening or have a glass with dinner. We do also have our own little private pub on site with an inglenook fireplace which we will fire up one evening for some fforest gin tasting.

Where you'll be staying

Ty fforest

From the outside, this is a farmhouse a child would draw: stout as a cottage loaf with a flour-white face and proud chimneys. Inside, though, it has all the swish of a Scandi ski lodge, with its pine cladding and patterned Welsh blankets.  The five bedrooms provide cosy comfort, each with their own shower room & toilet.

All bedding & towels are provided including our own fforest wool blankets.

Crog Lofts

The crog lofts combine heritage quality restoration, natural materials and timeless design. Inside you'll find slate floors with underfloor heating, luxurious shower rooms, bespoke furnishings & textiles combined with quality mid-century furniture. Inside is all about comfort, but with the living space spilling out onto the covered terrace you never forget how close you are to the beauty of nature and our rugged Welsh landscape.

All bedding & towels are provided including our own fforest wool blankets.

Garden Rooms

Our new Garden rooms are designed to provide simple characterful accommodation for individuals & friends. They are grouped as 3 cottages, with each cottage containing 3 bedrooms sharing an entrance lobby with fridge and tea/coffee facilities. The rooms are entirely lined in pine panelling, are highly insulated with warm air heating to keep you cosy. Beds are custom made, with full size mattresses. Toilet and shower facilities are in the adjacent shower block just a short walk away.

All bedding & towels are provided including our own fforest wool blankets

Hidden in the woods is our cedar barrel sauna (and cold shower for the brave). Just down the path from here is the Bwthyn, our very own little pub and the oldest building on the farm. A beautiful candlelit old stone cottage with inglenook fireplace.

See below for details of room types and prices.

Prices are for 3 nights and include full catering and all activities.

Drinks are not included, unless specified.

Please get in touch if you’d prefer to pay 50% at the time of booking & then the remaining 50% on the 19th September 2019
