Glow Create
Thursday 24th - Sunday 27th September
at Fforest Coast
The Autumn equinox, when the day and the night are in full balance, equal length of dark and light. This is time for harvest and thanksgiving, celebrating nature’s abundance, fruits and nuts, berries and seeds before we gently slip into the cooler darker months.
On this September weekend we have set aside a nurturing and inspiring weekend for women to get together to celebrate in the goodness of wild nature, to share skills, ideas, stories, nourishment, laughter, making keepsakes and memories interspersed with deep relaxation, comfort and kinship.
Each morning and afternoon during this special weekend we will be sharing something new for you to be inspired by, we have some very lovely sessions in the planning, some still to be confirmed.
I have long been an admirer of stain glass windows and of Flora Jamieson’s beautiful work. We are very delighted to have Flora join us this September to learn how stained glass is made and to actually have a little go ourselves. Under her careful guidance Flora will teach us how to decorate glass. In this immersive session, you will learn how to paint a traditional stained-glass quarry (a decorative square of glass often seen in Victorian stained glass windows). Flora will guide you through the historic process of trace painting and silver staining using hand-mixed pigments and fine brushes to create a beautiful hand-painted stained glass piece.
This September we welcome Erin MacAirt is an artist and printmaker living in West Wales. Her work blurs the line between visible and invisible worlds — the places where time spirals, thresholds thin, and the ordinary becomes something more. Erin will be teaching us how to make something for the changing season with straw, weaving straw, a corn dolly. Throughout history, people have used magical thinking to try to control nature. And very year, it used to be customary to craft a corn dolly from the last sheaf of the harvest. This corn dolly was kept inside through the winter, often in the kitchen to bring good luck and and good fortune a good harvest the next year. We are excited to be learing this ancient tradition.
We are always very delighted when our good fforest friend and very talented Ceramicist Amanda Banham will be joining us again this year to teach us how to make something with clay. We can guarantee spending time with Amanda shaping and making with clay will be a lot of fun. Amanda has a generous character and is full of adventures and telling stories about them, as well as ending up with something you have made.
We welcome back our dear friend and regular at Glow Gemma David from ‘The Quiet Heart’ Gemma who has the most calming presence, is a wellbeing practitioner, specialising in Acupuncture, counselling, movement, meditation, sound, nature, women’s cycles & rhythms specialist. Gemma will be leading us through a creative session with our body, a ‘living with the seasons’ session for the equinox. Some gentle movement, followed by a sound bath of singing bowls, after which we should all feel a greater sense of calm and balance.
We have many comfortable spaces for creativity or to simply relax into a chair, listen to the birds and read a book. There is no end product, the goal is to leave restored, glowing and refreshed.
This intimate gathering will be at our smaller coastal camp a short walk to beautiful Penbryn beach, the sea and a stunning coastline, with plenty of time between workshops for exploring, swimming and daydreaming.
